Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73 is the second symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, composed and premiered in 1877. The work is rooted in the late-Romantic orchestral tradition, characterised by warm D major tonality, lyrical themes, transparent yet rich orchestration and a pastoral, serenely lyrical mood, and it occupies a consolidating place in Brahms's symphonic output following the long gestation of his First Symphony.
