Symphony No. 8 is the eighth symphony by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed and premiered in 1943. A large-scale symphonic work in the classical tradition, it features sombre, often turbulent music with dense orchestration, sharp contrasts and a mixture of late-Romantic and modernist harmonic language across multiple movements, and it represents a notably introspective, wartime turn in Shostakovich's output.
