Violin Sonata / Cello Sonata is an album of chamber works by Dmitri Shostakovich, comprising the Violin Sonata, Op.134 (1968) and the Cello Sonata, Op.40 (1934). The two works contrast the late-period introspective harmonic language and terse, angular motifs of the Violin Sonata with the earlier Cello Sonata's more neoclassical structures and sardonic melodic writing, illustrating Shostakovich's stylistic evolution across his chamber-music output.
