Symphony No. 5 & 6

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Radio‐Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR & Sir Roger Norrington

Symphonies No. 5 and No. 6 are orchestral works by Ludwig van Beethoven, both premiered in 1808. The Fifth features a concise four-note motif that propels its dramatic development within the Classical–Romantic transition, while the Sixth adopts a pastoral, programme-oriented character evoking rural scenes, and together they mark a pivotal moment in Beethoven's middle period in which he expanded symphonic form and expressive range.
First released: February 2003
