The Lord of the Rings
Album by Johan de Meij & Ensemble vent et percussion de Québec & René Joly
The Lord of the Rings is a symphonic work for concert band (Symphony No. 1) by Dutch composer Johan de Meij, first released in 1988. Rooted in late-20th-century tonal and programme-music traditions, it adapts orchestral textures for wind ensemble with expansive forms, vivid brass and woodwind writing and programme-driven thematic material, and it represents an early major work that helped define De Meij's place in the modern wind-band repertoire.
First released: April 1997
