Underground

Underground music emerged in the late 20th century as a rebellious reaction to the mainstream, favouring authenticity over commercial success; basically, it’s what happens when artists crave artistic freedom and a chance to avoid those pesky top charts. This genre spans everything from experimental sounds to gritty punk rock, characterised by DIY ethics, offbeat production, and a distinct proclivity for not caring what anyone else thinks. It’s the musical equivalent of a secret club where only the coolest kids with excellent taste are let in, whilst the rest of the world hums along to whatever’s topping the charts.
