Traditional Music
Traditional music, often referred to as folk, began as a way for communities to pass down stories and history, generally during the 19th century in various parts of the world, although Britons have been belting out ballads since the dark ages. Characterised by acoustic instruments and lyrics that are either haunting or hilariously mundane, it can make you weep over lost love or laugh about sheep (yes, really). Interestingly, it tends to resurface at every wedding, birthday party, or pub crawl, ensuring that the phrase 'you don't know what you're missing' is applied with an especially cheeky wink.
