Psychedelic Trance
Psychedelic Trance, or Psytrance if you're feeling snazzy, exploded onto the scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s in Goa, India, where party-goers realised that mixing beats with a dash of hallucinogenic fun was rather good for the soul. The sound is characterised by rapid beats, melodic riffs, and layers of hypnotic sounds that might just convince you you're conversing with a particularly enthusiastic alien. Once the soundtrack of beach raves, it's now a staple at festivals worldwide, proving that sometimes a good beat can lead to existential contemplation or a very colourful dance floor mishap.
