Psychedelic Jazz
Psychedelic Jazz emerged in the 1960s, as musicians fancied blending their improvisations with the vibrant hues of the psychedelic rock movement, often in smoke-filled rooms where the furniture might have been a bit too soft. Characterised by surreal soundscapes, unexpected time signatures, and a tendency to experiment with everything from the instruments to the very concept of music, it can sound either transcendent or like a sonic puzzle that refuses to be solved. It’s a genre that reminds us that sometimes, taking the scenic route through musical chaos might just lead to the most interesting destinations.
