Progressive Folk
Progressive Folk emerged in the late 1960s, predominantly in the UK, when folk musicians decided strumming a guitar wasn't quite ambitious enough and decided to throw in some complex time signatures and lyrical depth just for fun. It blends traditional folk elements with orchestral arrangements and a smattering of psychedelic rock, which sounds like a choir of earnest poets got lost in a musical library and started arguing over the best tunes. Some say its eclectic nature is just an excuse for never quite knowing where the song is headed, but fans will insist that's all part of the charm.
