Neo Romantic

Neo-Romantic music emerged in the late 20th century, particularly in Britain, as composers decided that being tormented by modernism was simply too boring; instead, they opted for lush harmonies and emotional expressiveness that would make even the most stoic Victorian weep. Characterised by sweeping melodies, rich orchestration, and a rather fond nostalgia for the past, it often feels like the soundtrack to an overly dramatic film that hasn’t been made yet. This genre reminds us that sometimes, it’s perfectly acceptable to wear one’s heart on one's sleeve – preferably with a top hat and tails, of course.
