Mizrahi

Mizrahi music emerged in the mid-20th century, largely amongst Jewish communities originating from the Middle East, where blending traditional folk melodies with modern pop sensibilities was all the rage, proving that klezmer could get a disco beat. Characterised by catchy rhythms, emotional lyrics, and a rather cheeky use of instruments like the oud and accordion, it's basically what happens when you serve hummus at a wedding and everyone has a wonderful time. Interestingly, it has managed to straddle cultural divides, uniting people who might otherwise argue over which way to wrap a shawarma.
