Minimal Synth

Minimal Synth emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a cheeky response to the excesses of disco and rock, with artists opting for sparse electronic sounds instead of flamboyant solos and indulgent arrangements. Characterised by its use of synthesizers, drum machines, and often stark vocals, it sounds like a dance floor haunted by a synthesiser ghost who has a penchant for existential angst. Despite being a rather niche genre, it has inspired legions of modern artists reinvigorating the old magic of DIY electronics, proving that sometimes less really is more, even if you have to pretend to understand it to fit in at parties.
