Industrial Techno

Industrial Techno emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s, primarily in the UK and Germany, when people decided that a good dose of machine sounds and relentless beats could transform a night out into a soundtrack for the apocalypse. It's characterised by driving basslines, metallic tones, and samples that sound like someone dropped a metal bin down a flight of stairs; it's all very avant-garde unless you're the poor bloke trying to dance to it. The genre practically screams, 'I like my music with a side of existential dread,' making it a favourite amongst those who enjoy their raves just a bit on the dystopian side.
