Impressionist
Impressionist music blossomed in late 19th century France, when composers decided that 'let's just paint with sound' sounded quite lovely, leaving traditional forms and structures behind as if they had a train to catch. Characterised by shimmering harmonies and fluid melodies, it often feels like someone’s twirling about in a sun-drenched garden while trying not to trip over their own sandals. Despite its airy charm, Impressionism managed to convince the classical world that it could be both elusive and profoundly impactful, much like that one friend who shows up to every party and vanishes just as mysteriously.
