German Pop
German Pop, which began to bubble up in the 1960s, is characterised by its catchy melodies and often perplexing lyrics that could only make sense after a few pints. Typically upbeat, it blends traditional German schlager with elements of rock and electronic, creating tunes that can be both toe-tappingly joyful and slightly bewildering – think Europop but with an umlaut. The genre's cultural impact is such that it has turned even the most tragic love ballads into something one can happily hum along to whilst contemplating life’s many mysteries.
