Futurism

Futurism music emerged in early 20th century Italy, inspired by the Futurist art movement's obsession with speed, technology, and, somewhat amusingly, noise, as if someone decided that a cacophony was the soundtrack of modernity. Characterised by unconventional soundscapes that often include machinery and rejected traditional harmony, it sounds like listening to a factory under extreme stress whilst someone attempts to compose a sonnet. Its cultural impact was a bit peculiar, as it highlighted the absurdity of technology's role in our lives, prompting some to wonder if a car starting up could indeed qualify as a musical masterpiece.
