Fugue

The fugue is a dignified musical form that emerged during the late Renaissance and Baroque periods, particularly favoured by composers with exceptionally organised minds. Characterised by the intricate weaving of melodic lines that chase each other around like a gaggle of lost ducks, it makes even the most casual listener feel a tad more intellectual. You could say writing a fugue is the musical equivalent of solving a Sudoku puzzle, only with more quills and powdered wigs involved.
