Epic
Epic music emerged in the late 2000s, mostly from film trailers and video game soundtracks, as if composers decided that subtlety was overrated and started crafting anthems for imaginary battles instead. Characterised by swelling orchestras, choirs that sound like they could lift a mountain, and percussion that would wake the dead, it's essentially what you play when you want to feel like a hero while doing the washing up. The genre has gained a rather enthusiastic following, proving that even mundane tasks can feel like the climax of an action film—just don't forget to turn the volume down when the neighbours are around.
