Drill And Bass
Drill and Bass emerged in the mid-1990s, primarily in the UK, when some cheeky producers decided that traditional drum and bass could do with a bit more chaotic flair, and perhaps a splash of madness. It’s characterised by breakbeats that sound like they’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards, layered with samples and glitches that might just be the audio equivalent of a squirrel on a sugar rush. This genre appeals to a niche crowd, proving that while dance floors may be for shaking a leg, they can also be an excellent place to ponder existential crises in between the craziness.
