Dhrupad

Dhrupad is a deeply meditative style of Indian classical music that traces its roots back to the 15th century, emerging in the royal courts of North India, where it was presumably the soundtrack to an awful lot of pomp and circumstance. Characterised by its intricate vocal styles and improvisational flair, it often sounds like a serene whispering of the divine, potentially putting you in a trance-like state—perfect for those nights when the sofa just isn't comfy enough. Interestingly, this genre has managed to survive despite the musical world’s relentless urge to jazz things up, much like that one friend who insists on bringing their own homemade hummus to the pub instead of ordering crisps like a sensible person.
