Coke Rap

Coke Rap emerged in the early 2000s, mainly from the underground scenes of the American hip hop landscape, where artists realised that rapping about the highs and lows of the drug trade is infinitely more glamorous than discussing, say, the weather. Characterised by its gritty lyrics and moody beats, it sounds a bit like a melancholy confession in a dimly lit room, sprinkled with bravado and just the right touch of existential dread. It's a genre that proves the old adage: life's a bit rough, but at least there's a catchy beat for the struggle.
