Celtic Punk

Celtic Punk emerged in the late 1970s, principally in the UK, when cheeky punks decided standard guitars and rebellion needed a hearty dose of jigs and Irish folk melodies. The sound combines raucous, heavily amplified instruments with traditional instruments like fiddles and accordions, creating a raucous pub atmosphere without the need for a pint—or perhaps because of it. This genre has had a delightful cultural impact, with many bands turning favourite folk songs into anthems that encourage (read: demand) some serious foot-stomping, preferably whilst wearing a kilt.
