Balkan Music

Balkan music sprang up in the lively melting pot of Southeast Europe, mostly in the 20th century, mixing folk traditions with a generous sprinkle of Romani influence and a dash of Ottoman spice. Characterised by odd time signatures that could make a clock weep, it often features brass bands, accordion, and the uncanny ability to make you dance whether you want to or not. It's the kind of music that, if you don’t get up and twirl around a few times, you might just be accused of having two left feet and a bad attitude.
