Atonal Music
Atonal music sprang up in the early 20th century, primarily fuelled by a bunch of musical disruptors in Europe, who decided that traditional harmony was rather boring and opted for a bit of organised chaos instead. It sounds like someone threw all the notes in a blender and pressed 'purée', resulting in music that has no key centre and is often intentionally dissonant; the auditory equivalent of a Maths test gone completely awry. Fans often enjoy claiming that this soundscape represents pure emotion, whilst others are just left feeling a bit dizzy and wondering when the tune might kick in.
