Acousmatic
Acousmatic music emerged in the mid-20th century, particularly in France, where a group of composers decided that using actual instruments was far too mainstream and opted instead for recorded sounds that could leave listeners guessing what was real and what wasn't. It’s characterised by electronic manipulation of sounds that often have no visual source, leaving audiences to ponder if that rustling noise is a mouse or simply a very disgruntled leaf. While it may sound like an audio scavenger hunt, its influence can be heard in various modern genres, proving that sometimes, what you can't see is just as riveting as what you can.
