George Lewis is an American trombonist, composer and electronic musician from Chicago who began his career in the early 1970s within the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and is associated with jazz, experimental and improvised music. His work has ranged from acoustic improvisation and extended trombone techniques to electroacoustic composition and the development of interactive computer-music systems, and he has combined creative practice with academic research and teaching while engaging with the cultural and historical contexts of African American experimental music.
