Bidu Sayão was a Brazilian operatic soprano born in Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro in 1902 who trained in Brazil and Italy and began her professional career in the 1920s. Her repertoire centred on lyric roles in the Italian and French repertory, and she sang at major opera houses in Europe and the United States, contributing to cultural exchanges between Brazil and the international classical music scene.
