Caetano Veloso is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and composer from Santo Amaro, Bahia, who began his career in the early 1960s and is associated with Música Popular Brasileira (MPB), Tropicália, bossa nova and samba. He was a central figure in the 1960s Tropicália movement that blended Brazilian musical traditions with international pop and psychedelic influences, experienced political exile during Brazil's military dictatorship, and later moved between acoustic, pop and experimental approaches throughout his career.
