Cristóbal Halffter was a Spanish composer born in Madrid in 1930 who began his professional career in the 1950s and is associated with contemporary classical music. Initially working with post‑war avant‑garde techniques such as serialism and electroacoustic experimentation, his output later incorporated elements of Spanish musical tradition and vocal forms and often engaged with political and historical themes while he promoted contemporary music in Spain through teaching and institutional work.
