Franz von Suppé

Franz von Suppé was an Austrian composer born in 1819 in Split, then part of the Austrian Empire, who became active in Vienna during the mid-19th century and is best known for his operettas and light operatic works. His music combined Italianate melody and Viennese dance rhythms, evolving to feature brisk overtures and orchestral excerpts that contributed to the development and dissemination of the Viennese operetta tradition.
