Friedrich von Flotow was a German composer of the Romantic era, born in 1812 and active from the 1830s, who primarily wrote operas. His operatic style blended elements of French opéra comique and German lyricism, often combining spoken dialogue with lyrical arias and ensembles and placing his works within the 19th-century European theatre repertoire.
