Albums from the 1990s
The 1990s struck a rather peculiar chord in music, offering a delightful melange of styles that ranged from grunge's unkempt rebellion to the catchy sing-alongs of pop's boy bands, proving that not all trends require an ounce of sophistication. Britpop emerged as a cheeky response to strutting American rock, with bands vying for the title of the most authentically British while sporting questionable hairstyles. Meanwhile, the rise of hip-hop transformed music's landscape, with rhythmic storytelling replacing conventional melodies at a staggering pace. The decade's technological innovations allowed us to listen to our favourite tunes on CDs, which, it turned out, were not as indestructible as we’d hoped, seeing as most of those scratchy discs ended up as glorified coasters.
