The 1980s rolled in with a sonic explosion that showcased the wild whims of synthesizers and the sort of hairstyles that could probably house small animals. This was the decade when pop stars were expected to look like they’d just walked off a fashion catwalk, thanks to MTV, which turned music videos into an art form and a marketing strategy all in one.
